Moving Day Pt. 1: Splitting a household into two

A certain Englishman moved to New York City today.  He checked in two pieces of luggage and brought a carry on and a computer bag, totaling 120 pounds.

Because we are keeping our house, we are trying to bring as little as possible to Battery Park City (BPC).  This actually makes packing both easy and really hard.  Basically before we put anything into a suitcase, we have to ask the following:

1. Do we need this in NYC? If yes, go to question #2.

2. Do we also need this in Utah? If no, go to question #3. If yes, go to question #5 or #8.

3. Does a certain Englishman need it in the next two weeks? If yes, see question #4. If no, see question #10.

4. Can it fit in the luggage?  If yes, pack it.  If no, see question #5.

5. Can we get it on Amazon Prime?  If yes, order it. If no, see question #6.

6. Is it cheaper to ship it from Utah?  If yes, put it in the shipping box.  If no, see question #7.

7. Can a certain Englishman purchase it in NYC?  If yes, buy it once there.  If no, see question #8.

8. Does IKEA have it?  If yes, place in IKEA online cart.  If no, see question #9.

9. Do you really need it?  If yes, keeping asking question #9 until you can answer no.

10. Can it fit in either my or Johnny's luggage?  If yes, pack it later.  If no, see question #5.

As you can see, splitting a household in two takes lots of brain power.

While packing today, a certain Englishman was also trying to get renter's insurance.  We were recommended State Farm only to discover that we are in a storm area.  This means that FEMA only allows certain companies to offer us renter's insurance.  So Nationwide is now on our side.

A certain Englishman also had to notify our building today that he will be moving furniture into our apartment tomorrow.  Because he is moving the furniture himself, he has to give them $500 as a security deposit in case he damages anything in the process.

We have purchased a queen bed, vacuum, shelf, and a chair from someone who is moving out of her apartment a couple buildings away.  She said she also left some kitchen stuff as a "Welcome to NYC" gift.  So to help transport the stuff, we purchased something called, "Forearm Forklifts."

My former student and adopted son, C, who also moved to NYC is going to help him.

We also bought a writing desk from the former tenants in our apartment.  They also left behind a dining table and step stool.

A certain Englishman says he plans to work really hard to get the apartment set up before we get there in 12 days.  We decided it would be best for Johnny and I to stay behind so that I can order and ship stuff from here, and he will be the only one "camping" over there.

Tomorrow I'm meeting with my friend and interior decorator to help me put the apartment together.  She's super creative and I love her style.
